Spring can be a real headache when it comes to dressing your baby: cold in the morning, hot in the afternoon... Many parents wonder whether their baby is covered enough or too much.... To help you make sense of it all, we've put together our tips for dressing your baby in mid-season.

What clothes should I choose to dress my baby for spring outdoors?

How you dress your baby depends on the temperature and the weather (whether it's raining or not).

Dressing your baby in fine weather

First thing's first: when the weather starts to warm up, choose cotton clothes. This material is the most comfortable for your baby when the weather turns warm and temperatures rise. Cotton has many advantages: it helps sweat to evaporate, and it's a breathable material, compared with synthetics, which trap sweat on the skin.

Then, if the weather is fine, equip your baby with sunglasses : your baby's eyes are fragile and need to be well protected.

As spring temperatures tend to be very cold in the morning, then warmer in the afternoon, we advise you to dress your child in a cardigan in the morning, which you can remove later depending on the temperature.

It's easier to remove a layer if your baby is too hot, than the other way round.

Beware of the sun, which can sometimes be strong, so opt for shady spots, and don't forget the sun cream!

On the other hand, even when the weather's fine, it's still too early to walk baby around with his feet out in the air in his stroller. A pair of shoes, such as sneakers, is preferable.

Dressing your baby when it rains

To prevent March sleet, it's best to invest in a stroller equipped with arain cover.

When it rains, you can dress baby in rain boots so he can play in puddles without getting his little feet wet. We also recommend a windbreaker and raincoat for protection from the rain.

Accessories for spring

Spring temperatures can still be cool. So keep in mind that baby's extremities need to be covered to prevent him from catching a cold. Cover the head with a light cap or hood.

Sunglasses are a must when the sun is shining!

And, of course, theeternal bodysuit, which is worn all year round, day and night. Of course, you can adapt the materials by choosing warmer or cooler ones, with different sleeve lengths for different seasons.

How to dress baby inside the house in spring?

At home, we always keep a sweater for baby. In fact, spring is often the time when theheating is turned off. The temperature inside can therefore remain cool. Winter pyjamas can also be kept on until the indoor temperature improves, without heating.

In general, we recommend that your baby wears two layers of clothing(depending on the temperature of your home).

In early spring, when temperatures are still cool (18-19°C), your baby should be dressed in a long-sleeved bodysuit, winter pyjamas and a padded sleeping bag. Then, when temperatures warm up with the arrival of summer, and reach 20-22°C indoors, you can switch to a short-sleeved bodysuit and light cotton pyjamas.

What's the best material for spring?

Cotton is the material you should choose for your little one. It's a breathable material that absorbs sweat rather than keeping it on the skin, as synthetic materials do. It's soft and comfortable for your baby's skin.

What about diapers in spring?

No matter what the season, your baby needs a diaper . If you're going out, remember to take your diaper bag so you can change your baby regularly. You can also dress your baby in a training pants from the age of 2 or 3. This is the ideal solution for getting your baby used to potty training and keeping him dry all day long. Training pants are lighter than diapers, but still have absorbent properties.

When changing your baby's diaper indoors, we recommend that you do so in a sufficiently heated room.

Our tips for choosing baby clothes

When the warmer weather arrives, you might be wondering how to go about choosing your baby's clothes.

Keep your baby's ears and feet warm!

The extremities of your baby's body need to stay warm. In spring, it's still too cold to walk around with your baby's toes out in the open. So keep your baby's feet warm with canvas sneakers if the weather's fine, or rain boots if it's raining.

The same goes for the head: it's generally still too cold to leave it uncovered. We prefer to put on a light hat, hood or headband to cover his ears.

Anticipate rain before going out

Spring is the season of all possibilities in terms of weather. So don't forget to plan ahead and get a stroller with rain cover. A raincoat is also essential to keep out the rain. Finally, always carry a spare pair of socks: if you're caught in the rain and baby's feet get wet, you'll need to change his wet socks to prevent him from getting sick;

Listen to your baby

If he's grumpy, crying or restless, it's probably because he's too hot or too cold. If his neck feels hot and he's sweating, he's too hot. Conversely, if his tummy is cold: cover him up more.
