Size 2 diapers: up to what age or weight?
Your baby's been here for a few weeks already, and you've quickly realized that you're going to have your nose in diapers for a few more months (years?)! You've been in size 1 diapers for a while now, but your little one has already grown a lot and feels cramped in his current nappy. So, at what age and weight should you start using size 2 diapers for your baby?
Everything you need to know about size 2 diapers
Size 2 diapers have the same characteristics as other sizes: they generally consist of a skin-contact liner, anti-leak barriers, absorbent material and anti-leak material. What differs, unsurprisingly, is the size ! Slightly wider at the waist and thighs, the hook-and-loop front and back ears adapt to your baby's growing body. The further you go down the diaper size scale, the less useful it is to talk about your baby's age. diaper sizeThis is because growth and weight curves vary from one newborn to another. Size 2 diapers are therefore traditionally indicated for babies weighing from 3 to 6 kg.
When should I start using size 2 diapers?
You can start using size 2 diapers as soon as your baby weighs more than 3 kg, up to 6 kg. This generally corresponds to the 2-4 month period for infants, if we consider their weight curve to be linear and smooth (and this isn't always the case!).
How many size 2 diapers should I buy for my baby?
During the first three months, a baby wets around 8 diapers a day, so it's common to consume 1 whole pack of diapers in 3 to 4 days! So plan a few packs in advance, but don't anticipate too much either, as growth spurts or sudden changes in weight may well surprise you!

How to choose the best size 2 diaper?
In the same way as for other sizes: irreproachable safety and flawless absorption!
Because your baby is in constant contact with the diaper's materials for the first 2 - 3 years of life, it's important to ensure that the diaper'sacidity, moisture and chemical composition don't promote redness and other irritations on his bottom. To do this, find out about the composition of the different layers that make up the baby's diaper: contact layer, absorbent mattress, leak-proof material, outer material, etc.
Analysis reports should also be available; if not, beware of this lack of transparency!
When you become a mom or dad, you want to give your baby the best. But many marketing claims are not based on reliable information, or are compulsory for all diapers and diapers (hypoallergenic, dermatologically tested, etc.). Studies are regularly published, notably by consumer associations, the Agence Nationale de Sécurité Sanitaire and the DGCCRF, warning of the safety of diaper compositions.
Both disposable and cloth di apers have their advantages and disadvantages. Cloth diapers are more environmentally friendly, but in terms of cleanliness and risk of irritation, disposable diapers are preferred.
Baby's growing: when to change to a size 3 diaper?
There are several signs that indicate it's time to switch from size 2 to size 3:
- You find it increasingly difficult to fasten the back ears to the waistband, or they come off quickly;
- Your child is cramped and has diaper marks on the skin during diaper changes;
- You notice more leaks or explosive overflow; in case of recurrent leaks, you can keep wipes in your diaper bag.
- You can no longer fit two fingers between baby's tummy and diaper.
In this case, it's time to change size and opt for size 3 diapers.
